PLAY UP/PLAY DOWN POLICY

It is the policy of the HKRFU Youth Committee and HKFC Youth Rugby that all players play within the age group appropriate for their date of birth. Exceptions to this can only be based on valid health and safety reasons. Being new to the game is not a valid reason nor is wanting to play together with friends or siblings. The coaches of each year group will ensure that new players are properly introduced to the game in a safe and enjoyable manner.

If you wish your player to play outside of his/her age group, you should first register the player in his/her age group and indicate your request to play out of the age group by clicking the "YES" button.

At the start of the season, the player should report to his/her age group first (and NOT to the age group he/she would like to play in). You should then inform the Head Coach of that age group that the player would like to play out of his/her age group. You will then be required to submit a Request for Play Up/Down form through the Head Coach to the Chairman of Youth Rugby.

The play up/down request must then be approved by the Head Coach of the age group that the player would like to play in, the Chairman of Youth Rugby and the HKRFU Youth Committee before the player is allowed to play out of age group. In the event that approval is obtained for a player to play out of age group, the player may still be barred from playing games/matches in HKRFU organized festivals should there be objections from opposing teams.

For example if your child is born in 2008 and should play in the Under 10 age group but requests, for health & safety reasons, to play in the Under 9 age group, you must obtain the approval of the Head Coach of the Under 9 age group, the Chairman of Youth Rugby and the HKRFU Youth Committee before the player is allowed to play out of his/her age group.
