"It is not the winning but the spirit of fair play, enjoyment and safety that is paramount". This is the essence of Youth Rugby and the code by which Youth Rugby is played at Hong Kong Football Club. As one of the largest participating clubs in Hong Kong Youth Rugby, Hong Kong Football Club has a long history of involvement in the sport and many thousands of children and their families have benefited from the Club's organised Youth Rugby activities. On average over 400 players are registered with Hong Kong Football Club Youth Rugby each year and coaching is provided by volunteer parents and Youth Rugby Committee members who also undertake the organisation and administration of the Section.
Regular coaching sessions are held on Sunday mornings between September and April and the Club Youth Rugby teams participate in festivals, leagues and tournaments throughout the season as well as at the annual Hong Kong Sevens tournament, where they compete against other Youth Rugby clubs throughout Hong Kong in a showcase of Youth Rugby. The Club also organises annual overseas tours to participate in Youth Rugby festivals and tournaments in places such as Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Participation in Youth Rugby at Hong Kong Football Club is open to children, both boys and girls, of Hong Kong Football Club Members, and non-Members, and is organised by the age of children at January 1st into seven groups, in Mini Rugby from U6 for five to six year-olds then by year up to Under 12. Beyond 12 years old players progress to Colts Rugby which is organised into three age groups at Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18/19 levels. There are dedicated Girls Rugby teams at the Under 12, 14, 16 and 19 age groups. All participants must complete the Club's registration procedure and pay the required registration fee.
